Spring is finally in the air

Mornings are still crisp, but our days are longer. Snow is still on the mountains and gloves, jumpers, blankets and shawls are still on the needles and hooks!

Our AGM was held in August and we have an updated Committee. Thank you to all outgoing, ongoing and incoming committee members. Just a reminder for anyone who missed it – our Guild membership renewals are due. We’ve had some great news on the hot water front, and even better news on the installation – it has happened! Thank you Julie.

The knitted and crocheted blankets project is coming along well. Although it was intended partly to reduce our community stash of acrylic, the incoming donations have more than kept pace. So anyone who would like to contribute a 10″ square, knitted, crocheted or woven, for a blanket which will be donated to local hospice care, feel free to grab some acrylic from the stash!

We still have a number of surplus spinning wheels and pieces of equipment available to purchase, so if you know anyone who maybe interested let them know. Note: a few of the spinning wheels are decoration only due to incorrect irreversible assembly at some stage, or other problems not worth fixing.

Travel seems to still be high on the agenda, with some members away overseas (and posting photos on Facebook), and others counting down to planned adventures.

A big thank you to members who have NOT turned up to meetings due to colds or sniffles. With the number of serious viruses going around, especially after school holidays, it is good to see precautions being taken. One good thing to come from the pandemic is the general acceptance of face masks when necessary and voluntarily avoiding crowded situations when unwell.

Our regular monthly Show & Tell will continue after a word from our President, so lets get on with it.

Cheers all,
KathyW, Editor.

President’s Report 2025 The Year in Review

Another great year for our Guild.

New Members

Welcome to Anna, Kathy, Peter and Valerie who have joined us since the 2024 AGM.

Community

We’ve participated in many community events. Quite a few of our members demonstrated our spinning and weaving talents at the Jindera Lost Trades Fair, onlookers were intrigued. The organisers were very grateful for the Guild contributing to the fair.

We also demonstrated our skills at the Holbrook Show. and had success with our entries taking away quite a lot of prizes. I know the Show organisers great appreciate our input. There was success at the Wodonga Show too.

We also demonstrated at the Holbrook Museum.

Congratulations to all for your participation, successes and community spirit.

Workshops

Thanks to all who have come up with great ideas for workshop. They inspire us to try new crafts eg Dorset buttons, weaving patterns, tatting….

Newsletter

A big thankyou to Kathy. Our Newsletter is simply the best. It’s a great read and is very entertaining.

Charity

Great year fundraising, Cancer Council and AW Animal Rescue. Also making Trauma Hearts for the Mercy Palliative Care Unit.

Thank you

To everyone for making the Guild a fun place to come and have a chat and just be yourself. Friendship is such priceless.

Lastly and most importantly, I would like to thank the Committee member and everyone who has helped with workshops and other duties undertaken. You have all helped me do my job and most importantly helped the Guild run smoothly. Thank you.

How many wheels is too many?

SpinningWheelsBanner_Artile

In case you ever feel you have too many spinning wheels, spare a thought for this American spinner. This is her collection – in her own words:

“In Order are my Saxony style wheels, my upright wheels, all my wheels together (well minus one that is in my husband’s repair shop), and then a picture of all my Reeves wheels, and my two Jensen Wheels.”

Fleecy Follies

IFF_Banner_MG_0120

Who’s the king of the castle …

Last time in Fleecy Follies we featured young Cedrick, climbing up the end of a feeder. To continue on that theme, it seems a high vantage point appeals to many of the locals here …

Then there’s the barn cat that loves to sit in the sun on the western shed roof on cold sunny mornings, and the warm rocks of an evening. And the goat who also loves to elevate herself on the rocks in her paddock. We also occasionally find little piles of poop strategically and apparently deliberately dropped on top of rocks by the local foxes and wombats.

Rocks, it seems, really do rock!

Last words ...

A few housekeeping items:
1 – Some members have been getting spam type emails saying they are coming from Guild members. If anyone gets a suspicious looking message, do not open it or any links within it.
2 – Please do not park in front of the Guild’s side double doors. This could cause a problem in the case of an emergency. Please park in the undercover area well clear of the doors and grandstand stairs, or on the grass area.
3 – The drain area outside the Guild door that fills up with water when it rains is becoming DANGEROUS with one of our members slipping in the mud and algae growing there. PLEASE KEEP WELL CLEAR OF THE DRAIN AND MUD even when it appears dry!

Newsletter contributions are always welcome. So, if anyone has anything they want to contribute, or requests for articles, email me!

Cheers for now,
KathyW, Ed.
